THE STORY TELLER:
Tell me a story blind man for you are the Storyteller.
Tell me about the darkness
and how it sheltered you in its womb,
and pitied by all.
Tell me of the water.
What did you see?
Greed in the hands of power.
A glance the other way.
Did it hurt knowing the truth?
Perhaps that is why you are blind.
Tell me of the skies,
the beautiful charcoaled sunsets,
the hazy blanket of smog and the cold damp afternoons.
Were the toxins gentle on the animals?
Were you also blind to this?
From the holes of useless bile did remorse crave to see
that which I was forced to remember.
How can the Storyteller describe
the blistering flesh burnt onto the skulls.
The billions.
The stench.
The young spitting into my face as I ravaged their bodies.
Tell me.
Please tell me, Storyteller!
At your bedside I did read to you
whispered the tired old man.
Not a prouder father one could find.
Though blind to images of your world,
I saw with my hands and loved with my ears.
I tell you in honesty and in pain,
wept the old Storyteller.
What I did I did for you.
And to wear the crown of thorns
I would do all over again.
What I did I did from love,
I did for you.

THIS IS A CLASSIC BOOK FOR YOUR CHILDREN TO READ:
ANTS
I hate ants
I cannot lie
they bite my feet
I wish they would die
On a sunny day
laying in the grass
I burn their bodies
with a magnifying glass
They smoke and pop
some sizzle and hiss
They start to smell
and run underground
as I burn their shell
The queen they protect
and hide her eggs
Deep inside the mound
giving their lives as I smash their legs!!
I hate ants
I really don't know why
I fell powerful watching them die...
THE PUZZLE
(Jim Morrison by Robert Margetts)
"What is greed," asked the little boy?
"Greed is like a potatoe chip,
once you've eaten one
you can't stop," said the old man.
"Then what is kindness," asked the little boy?
"Kindness is a glass of water.
Quench the thirst of others before yourself,
that is an act of kindness," replied the old man.
"What is power," asked the little boy?
"Power is holding a butterfly in your hand
and crushing him to death," said the man.
"That sounds more like hate," replied the boy.
"True," he replied.
"Most who possess power learn to hate and destroy.
You can't have one without the other."
"Then, what is love," asked the boy?
"Love is placing your hand into a fire
to save the butterfly from pain
and crushing him to death to relieve the suffering."
"Life is sure strange," replied the boy.
"Life is but a puzzle," he replied.
"When the puzzle has been completed,
when the last piece has been put into place,
then the riddle of your life will be solved.
Each puzzle is different
just as each individual is different.
Some love
Some hate
Some have power
Some are kind.
The only knowledge I can pass onto you is
knowing that most puzzles have many of the same pieces.
"Then will I learn to hate," questioned the little boy?
"That piece of you is still waiting to be found," whispered the old man.
"You will find hate in this world
and love
and even kindness
in your puzzle
and throughout your life.
Perhaps not today or tomorrow,
but to finish the riddle of life
you will have to complete your puzzle."
THE FISH SAGE
(Jerry Garcia by Robert Margetts)
On a sodden stream bank
a pack lunch
just grampa and me
To teach me the art of fly casting
my teacher, the octogenarian, a dying symbol of fertility.
Casting
the bamboo rod
a peninsula in the mist
The line
titillating the ripples
as it skipped the waters edge
Taunting virgin gills
to a throat tearing breakfast.
An eager mouth
lurched high into the morning air
and swallowed the hot shrapnel.
Pain...Sheer panic.
Pain......sickening pain..
The burning poker ripped into his slippery esophagus
and dug deep into the gills
Blood and segment of his own flesh
filled his mouth.
The pain....sheer pain.
Must stop the pain, but how?

THE NEW BABY
(new baby cub by Robert Margetts)
I'm not one to complain
but having a little brother is a REAL PAIN.
He cries just to get all the attention
and everyone makes a BIG FUSS over him.
They play with his hands and toes
and they even make STUPID FACES!!!
They tickle his belly
and make his bed.
MOMMY kisses his ears
and DADDY nuzzles his head!!!!
Now, I NEVER understood why
my older sister hated me so,
for I was not as BAD
as little bro!!!!!!
I GOT LICE
(good rice by Robert Margetts)
I got lice in my hair
I got noodles on my chin
and I got pot stickers in my pocket
I got sweet and sour all over my tongue
and sesame chicken on my face
It happened sometime last week
dinner at some Chinese place
They steam your food
and fry it to perfection
Drop an egg and let it roll,
So why that awkward expression?
It's just lice
They put it with fish
They mix it with everything
They put it in every dish!
The nurse at school is just being silly
Lice is good for your body
it builds bones and makes you strong
Chinese people eat it all day long!!!!
The chef was responsible
He threw the food in the air
things were just crazy
That's how I got lice in my hair..
So, I got a bowl of lice
Let's not overreact
Suspended from school
at the drop of a hat
The principal quick to phone
yelled at my parents
for not leaving me at home!!
The teachers screamed and ran for the door
dashing for the exit
while gripping their heads.
Some even swore!!!!!
"Leave this room," they shouted in fear!!!
"We don't like lice
No sir, not in here!!
Go home and wash your dirty head
your disgusting kid
before it starts to spread"
I just don't get all the fuss and commotion
Lice is yummy
Lice is hot
There is no secret potion
just add,
Water and lice
boil to done
Fry it
Serve it
And eat till there is none.

THE WOOGLE DOOGLE MONSTER
(looking into the mirror by Robert Margetts)
He's mean and crude
and not my most favorite dude.
His teeth are yellow and green with slime
He walks like an ape
and is never on time.
His arms are big and hairy
and at first glance, rather scary!!
With a snort of his snout
and a twitch of his chin
He passes gas at the drop of a pin.
He's kind of crude and a bit mean
awfully fat and definitely not clean!
But as monsters go
I must say
My Woogle Doogle Monster is a OK!!
PASS THE SALT
(what's for dinner by Robert Margetts)
Salt my fries and my fish
Add more.....
Add more to this dish!!!!
A dash here
A pinch there
Fill the plate
I do not care!!!!
Open wide down the trap
Here comes that tasty sodium crap....
ARE WE THERE?
(The coming storm by Robert Margetts)
Stop the car,
are we there yet?
My pants are soggy
and woefully wet!!
Pee is seeping down my leg...
Speed up and turn down the heat
I fear wetness in my seat...
Pull off!!!!
Pull off here!!
I see a rest stop,
Hurry up, Hurry up!!!!!
Hasten up for Christ Sake!!
My bladder is ready to pop!!!!!!!
Ooops....too late.....
GRANDMA BEAR
(Grandma bear and me, by Robert Margetts)
My daddy says my Granny
controls the whole family
My mommy says his granddaddy
controls everyone
I don't care who controls who,
I just love them all..
THE DIRTY ROTTEN HAIR PULLER
(The dirty rotten hair puller, by Robert Margetts)
Just look at sis,
her hair so fine
I would tie her to the railroad track
and leave her in a bind!!!
That would do the trick.
Well, maybe not,
On second thought, perphaps no,
That would be just plain mean!!
Grab her hair and push her face
into a bowl of cold ice-cream!!!
I like that idea.
Oh Lord,
how she would scream and kick
then I would grab mom's scissors
and Clip, Clip, Clip!!!!
Yes, that would be kool..
Off go her beautiful locks!!
To shut her big yapper
I would stuff in my dirty socks!!!
Now,
how do you like me, Sis?
COLD HEARTS
(My heart burried under the tree, by Robert Margetts)
Chilling hearts and freezing nights
and another log burns into tiny embers
as the winds of past whisper tales outside my frozen door.
It was a time when heroes walked in true silence
and tormented children cried into the black night.
It was a time of death in mid light
and evil prowled the Earth for food.
Where trees once stood tall, now gave way to decaying old stumps.
It was a time when love was slavery,
but the chains of obligation that were linked together by iron memories
had weakened and tarnished.
And then as the rising sun met the high wind,
she appeared.
To climb the pyramids of Egypt
To walk the paths of Plato.
She bathed in the Seas of China
and touched the Rock of Gibraltar.
She drank from the cup of Erasmus
and haggled in the bazaars in Istanbul.
It was a time of friendship
of loving one another and making dreams
and crying about tomorrow.
It was a time when friends held hands and believed in today.
And, when the sun set, she went with it.
Memories,
can you tell me where they go at night?
Memories,
can you tell me why they won't come back?
DOING TIME AT THE ZOO
I sit in my cage
and eat raw flesh from metallic bowls
twice a day
I return to the open holes
You pass the meat
and expect me to be happy
caged in an iron coffin
yet convicted of no crime
You pass my cage
as I do the time
He throws me a peanut
She tosses me a candy bar
It waves and taunts me
shouts and vents
disrespects my existence
and expects me to be content
We are the one who watch you go by
We are the ones who wait to die
We are the ones who hate you so
We are the ones who truly know
that you are the beast
trapped in your own mortality
begging forgiveness from some soiled priest
They come in droves
They drive their cars
They walk by our cages
throw morsels of genetically altered food
and throw our minds into horrific rages
Who is the animal
that traps my kind
Slaves to your world
filled with hate
filled with utter fear
passing my prison but shedding not a tear
to walk the corridors of iron that rust
and show sympathy and empathy
ironic gestures of trust
You enlightened creature
who fear my kind instinct
It is you who have been fleeced
It is you who are the beast.

A PEANUT BUTTER FROG SANDWICH
Froggy, froggy, you look so glum
With crunchy peanut butter on your bum
Hidden inside two pieces of bread
Grape jelly dripping down your head
Not so good, not so fun
Quick, jump out before you’re done!!
HER PAIN
In the most tender hour a life was born
given to a poor woman with nothing to give.
Poor and decrepit
old and ugly.
No family to help, no friends to beg,
each day a struggle to survive
She stole for food,
wrapped him in paper
fed him from dirty needles
and bathed him in the sewer waters
And he was happy
for he knew nothing of greed nor prejudice.
He knew only of the kind face that loved him.
And she too was happy
for someone did love her
and cared not about her wealth
For three years a boy learned
to crawl, walk, google, and talk.
He learned love and pain
hunger and thirst
coldness and wetness
And for three years she did learn
what it meant to have nothing but to give everything,
to see pain in the eyes of a child
and to know that you were solely to blame
In the cold Winter of 1987
the baby fell ill.
His screams of pain pounded in her bones
as she begged for help upon deaf ears.
He who had so much would give nothing
and she with child looked the other way.
And one night the old lady crouched
down in a puddle of slush,
lay the young lad upon the blanket of snow.
And with a kiss on his cheek
and a pat on his head,
tears trickled from her eyes
as the baby lay dead.
And for the first time in her life, the old lady
really understood pain
and she cried, and cried.
ORIGINAL PRINTS
This piece took me around 7 days to complete. It actually took me a month but it sounds better if I say it only took me 5 days (I mean 7 days) to finish. What it is, I don't really know and why I did it, that too I cannot answer with certainty. I just know that for some strange reason I had to draw a 3 dimensional hand coming out of a picture to paint a picture.
I did this piece last year for my father for Christmas. It's supposed to be a bear but for some reason he looks more like a racoon to me. At first I didn't like it, but the purple grew on me.
REMINDS ME OF MY EX GIRLFRIEND
First, let me just say I am not an artist and don't pretend to be an artist. I simply do these carvings and paintings because my little brain sends synaptic messages through my fingers and forces me to pick up a carving knife or a paint brush. If it were up to me, I would pick up a good glass of scotch and a lint brush but as I already said, my brain forces me to do things and I think it's trying to control me. These are just a few of the pieces....
(another moose for the wife)
Moose Walking through the Forest
The jury is still out on this piece. I can tell you one thing, it took a long time to carve and paint and an even longer time to decide not to throw it in the garbage!!!
Texas Toast
Hey, what can I say, I like the color, Orange. Yep, really are no excuses as to why I carved this piece!
HORN TIME IN TEXAS
This is my cow stage (for lack of a better defination)
Hang in there Old Cow
(Elvis my cow by Robert Margetts)
(Elvis the moon cow by Robert Margetts)
(Pixie cow by Robert Margetts)
I might have gone a little overboard on this particular painting. Kind of gives you a headache if you stare at it too long!!!!!
(Elvis the Cow by Robert Margetts)
Now, this bat signal took forever to complete. I actually finished it one late Saturday afternoon and mistakenly stayed it with speckled white gloss paint (I thought I was spraying it with a clear gloss). I came withing inches of smashing it into tiny pieces...
The Bat Signal
Ok, it's pretty obvious that I like BATMAN. This particular piece was supposed to represent the three changes of batman over the past 50 years. It was carved out of red oak and then some idiot decided to paint over it (me)
(the three Bat signals)
superman in the funny mirror
(The Joker and his last laugh)
(Life and death with a joker by Robert Margetts)
This was an early piece that I had painted back in 2000..
(Batman at the DMV by Robert Margetts)
Evil Superman
(Batman racing through the streets by Robert Margetts)
The Bat Call
One Really Pissed off Bat
The Last Joke
(Batman in 3d by Robert Margetts)
(Superman in purple by Robert Margetts)
(Superman and his Bad Temper by Robert Margetts)
(Batman in Pain by Robert Margetts)
(Batman at the DMV in 3d by Robert Margetts)
Superman on his Bluetooth
Superman Taking it off
I like this one. It reminds me of Christmas.
I can't really can't tell you what I was thinking about when I carved this piece. I think it looks like a fish, but my wife thinks it ressembles...NOTHING...
Ok, here goes my fish craze. To be honest, I really don't care much for fish, but what the heck.
THE PROZAK FISH
(The Fish Skeleton by Robert Margetts)
Now to continue the madness, I decided to venture into other animals both with the carving knife and with the paintbrush.
This tree almost fell on our house back in 2005. We were living in Cumming, Georgia at the time when the hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans.
Jerry Garcia's Moose
(THE BEATLES COMING TO AMERICA by Robert Margetts)
My Uncle Charley wrote a book once called "Eddy and the Mooney goats" (I realize that I probably misspelled the name of the book.) I always thought this would make a great name for this carved piece. Consequently, this one is dedicated to my favorite Uncle.
(Edward the Walking Ardvark by Robert Margetts)
Can't say much about this piece. It was carved from pine and probably took me more time to actually do it than it looks. I know what you are thinking, but why spend so much time and effort on stuff when you could be watching college football? I don't have an answer!!!!
This one kind of looks like my father - in - law.
Uncle Tom
Carved from popular. It looks like my hand after I finished the piece!!!
This one might make it's way to the fireplace!!!!!!
Obviously I hung this one up in my house. Hopefully it looks like two bears playing with one another. And the small bear underneath this piece, yes, I did that one too.
This tree (what's left of it, almost fell on our house one night.) I decided to carve it into the shape of that particular tree.
same carving, different background.....
I really don't like these next few pieces. They are actually jammed under my bed, out of sight and out of mind.
My old house. Yep, when I ran out of canvas, I painted on the walls. No wonder I couldn't sell the my house!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DOING TIME AT THE ZOO
I sit in my cage
and eat raw flesh from metallic bowls
twice a day
I return to the open holes
You pass the meat
and expect me to be happy
caged in an iron coffin
yet convicted of no crime
You pass my cage
as I do the time
He throws me a peanut
She tosses me a candy bar
It waves and taunts me
shouts and vents
disrespects my existence
and expects me to be content
We are the one who watch you go by
We are the ones who wait to die
We are the ones who hate you so
We are the ones who truly know
that you are the beast
trapped in your own mortality
begging forgiveness from some soiled priest
They come in droves
They drive their cars
They walk by our cages
throw morsels of genetically altered food
and throw our minds into horrific rages
Who is the animal
that traps my kind
Slaves to your world
filled with hate
filled with utter fear
passing my prison but shedding not a tear
to walk the corridors of iron that rust
and show sympathy and empathy
ironic gestures of trust
You enlightened creature
who fear my kind instinct
It is you who have been fleeced
It is you who are the beast.
HER PAIN
In the most tender hour a life was born
given to a poor woman with nothing to give.
Poor and decrepit
old and ugly.
No family to help, no friends to beg,
each day a struggle to survive
She stole for food,
wrapped him in paper
fed him from dirty needles
and bathed him in the sewer waters
And he was happy
for he knew nothing of greed nor prejudice.
He knew only of the kind face that loved him.
And she too was happy
for someone did love her
and cared not about her wealth
For three years a boy learned
to crawl, walk, google, and talk.
He learned love and pain
hunger and thirst
coldness and wetness
And for three years she did learn
what it meant to have nothing but to give everything,
to see pain in the eyes of a child
and to know that you were solely to blame
In the cold Winter of 1987
the baby fell ill.
His screams of pain pounded in her bones
as she begged for help upon deaf ears.
He who had so much would give nothing
and she with child looked the other way.
And one night the old lady crouched
down in a puddle of slush,
lay the young lad upon the blanket of snow.
And with a kiss on his cheek
and a pat on his head,
tears trickled from her eyes
as the baby lay dead.
And for the first time in her life, the old lady
really understood pain
and she cried, and cried.
NUCLEAR MEMORIES
A child of seventy walks in death’s sands
looking far off and remembering distant lands
and memories cry inside his arching head
as a hungry God cries tears of red
Footprints in the sand, telling stores of past.
Waves cut in and shape new memories
carrying old feelings into the night.
Each footprint leads him one step into the future.
Each wave leaves him one memory into the past.
And he remembers a time when men cried into the wind
and children prayed to the only God of the night.
It was a time when the strong could stop and listen.
They had lived in a time, a time untold
few questions were asked and no lies were given,
thus they survived.
But those footprints have long washed away
and time is tomorrow’s past
as darkness drips its acid nails into the flesh of a child.
Its cries suffocated in yesterday’s pollution.
The hatred of an angle burns eyes of red
as the child of seventy wall’s into the night,
wishing he were dead!
SKELETONS IN MY CLOSET
Lee under pressure
acrylic paint on canvas by Robert Margetts
What’s all this hush hush
about bones and secrets?
None in my closet
that’s for sure
I would know
I hide in there
And if I see
a bony cadaver
Out he goes
into the cold world
No secretes in my closet,
that’s for sure!
WEAPONS OF TIME
(painting by Robert Margetts)
Through the archways they did come
through the millennium of time
from Khan to Hitler
from John Wilkes Booth
to James Earl Ray
from John Wilkes Booth
to James Earl Ray
From the bronze era
to the atomic era
to the nuclear era
to the atomic era
to the nuclear era
each bearing his own form of hardened steel
Pride, honor and vengeance
Distrust, loathing and power
Evil and corruption
filled the damp granite halls
as the soldiers of time trampled upon the rustic cobblestones
in their sullied boots
A nod of recognition here
a shove and a scowl there
they clutched to their insidious weapons
like starve ridden babies clinging to a full breast.
Maidens bustled in tight corsets
swayed to the rhythmic tones
that bubbled from their flutes.
The soldiers of time
stood to attention
awed by these ladies of the night.
These soft creatures dressed in white
so pure of hatred
and so innocent of crime.
With hungry eyes and scarred lips
did so desire to fill their needs
The few sober took to the ale
like jackals to rotten flesh.
The first to fall,
the gallant knight
entombed in his dented armor
entombed in his dented armor
He lowered his nail studded mace
and let it fall deep into the hungry moat
Pride and deceit vanished
deep into the silty mud
To the seeker of the Holy Grail
forgiveness from the boy Ward.
In the house of Arthur, the knight was reborn.
The cowboy nodded to the knight,
holstered his pistol
removed his belt
removed his belt
and handed
it to the blacksmith.
it to the blacksmith.
Honor and dishonesty
vengeance and hate
were quickly hammered into the form of a horseshoe.
Billy The Kid doffed his dusty cap
and extended the hand of truce,
the branch of clemency.
And for the first time
he shook the hand of the sheriff
And he too was reborn that day,
in the house of Garrett.
The musketeer watching from afar
dropped his bloodstained foil
With a clank upon the courtyard stones
revenge tricked from his murderous blade
The fanning weeds
that fought for space between the crevices
licked the sanguine weapon clean of hate
For the first time in 100 years
Romeo looked upon Juliet
For the first time in 100 years
Romeo looked upon Juliet
And Capulet
And Montague
were reborn in the house of Shakespeare
And Montague
were reborn in the house of Shakespeare
Hiding in the dark alcove
near the winding stairs stood the most evil,
the most powerful and sinister of creation past.
Clutched in his rawboned fist
and holding the world at bay
Stupidity and hypocrisy tucked in his back pocket
in the form of a bribe
Too weak
Too tired
to fight the soothing array of notes
that placated this once vicious crowd.
He opened his bony hand and dropped the hideous vial into the moat
and with it the secrets of destruction
were quickly swallowed up
in the murky cool waters.
in the murky cool waters.
Bending down to his knees
he did cry
for that day
in the house of humanity
Einstein was reborn
And for the first time,
since the Seventh day of creation
The creator of dust
and the maker of steel was happy
for in eleventh hour of the day
for in eleventh hour of the day
his faith in humans,
was reborn.
A HARP TEAR
the seal killer
acrylic on canvas by Robert Margetts
To my child and wife
Silenced in love, murdered from life
Cuddled in fur, wrapped in lace
Taunting strangers, smiling with grace
Crawling in the snow with pup in sight
Sheltered from the cold and youthful flight
On the Eve of Christmas year
Shouts from the enemy, cries of fear
Attack was brutal, sickle was quick
Blood dripped from the butchers stick
A gift here forgotten tomorrow
Killing the helpless yet feeling no sorrow
Wrapped in harp, cuddled in red
They walk the streets carrying my dead.
The rose and the thorn cut from the stem
Lying in the garbage like a faulty gem
And all the memories that we made
And the dreams that we shared
Echoed silence from the ripper
The Gardner, the rose clipper.
THE GOOD FATHER
the thinking man
acrylic paint on canvas by Robert Margetts
I’ve heard stories from those who knew him best
They spoke of him as the silent hero
A man of stature
A man of inner strength and pride
With love and tenderness he did rear me
A single parent widowed by painful fate
A drunk driver played the grim reaper
And stole a soul before its time.
Yet, not a word did he mention of his loss
Not an open bed did he take for comfort
Nor the hands of pity did he accept
Though thrown into his new responsibilities
He took to them as if it were fate.
And complaints, I had none
He frolicked in my youth
And shared in my pain
He taught me in a world of hate
That in darkness there is strength
That goodness hides behind fear
And to understand this emotion,
One must see the child in the most evil
And befriend his pain.
All this time, not a tear did he drop
Not the breath of remorse reached my ears
I could not and did not see his pain
For he showed none.
If his eyes were two way mirrors,
They reflected nothing but content
And pain was but a brick wall on the other side
With no means of escape or relief.
And then one night he took his life.
With a click of the trigger a silent hero
Kissed the wings of immortality forever.
And, for the first time I realized
That is wall of pain was the only
Legacy passed onto me.
And, as fate would have it,
I built it twice as high for my wife and kid.
FATHER AND SON
hang em high
acrylic paint on canvas by Robert Margetts
To create a life, that I have done
and to bury a man who called me his son.
To have lived in fear and seen man split atoms
and to have sailed upon the great Mississippi
and almost drown in seven fathoms.
To leave my flesh and see apparitions
dance upon the shrine
and to know of dead bodies
Floating down the Rhine.
To have kissed the girls in numerous lands
and to some I loved, I did leave
deep wounds in their hands.
To have walked with Plato and trod on teak
that floated upon the Caspian Sea.
And to have touched the bark
and seen the life taken from the trees.
To have flown in the air in machines that rust
and to have turned green pastures into bowls of dust.
To lie to my wife and cheat in bed
and he who took vengeance and bore me
my first that was dead.
To this and more I regret as a man
for I never hugged my father
and I never held my son’s hand.
CONSTANT PAIN
When she looks straight through you
and desires another by her side.
When warmth and tenderness
lead to unhappy acceptance,
and the tears that swell
deep inside her sockets as she
lays with her back to you,
drip long into the cold night
for the other man.
And hands that once
swore partnership before a sentenced crowd
break the ring of time
and toss the circular icon upon deceits tarnished floor.
With lips that begged for
hungry connection
spit forth the fluids of the chosen
and contaminate the unborn within the uterus.
There be no such hand
that could deliver a blow and inflict
the pain that now grows between
a man and his wife.
A pain as blistering as fire
chewing the moisture off the skin.
A hurt as deep as the growing universe
constantly expanding and drifting farther apart.
And a numbness that only a bullet
in the head could awaken.

MY GIFT
Johnny Cash taking ten
acrylic paint on canvas by Robert Margetts
In lands long ago
I with fortune chose to look away.
To the thirsty, I poured my water onto the ground.
To the hungry, I nibbled till I exceeded my fill.
To the sad, I shared my joy with those who laughed until it hurt.
To the hemophiliacs that so desperately needed a transfusion,
I could not donate a drop of my precious blood
to prolong the life of an innocent child.
To the cancer victim who would never know the
Excitement of turning twenty
or walking down the isle with a young bride,
I would not offer a scrap of my bone marrow.
To my only brother,
lying in a bed hooked to a dialysis machine
slowly withering away before the age of forty,
I darned not offer one kidney.
And to my wife
Who believed in me for so many years,
fought my battles, defended me to all her friends
and fell in total love for another man,
I could not give her the one gift that she wanted,
her freedom from me
BLACK AND WHITE
Apollyan and the Sustainer
lived and bitched
from a fallen angel
into the hallow ditch
from a dog did rise
a Deity evolved from a wolf
The Das took the black
and Jehovah the white
across the Styx against the light.
Did he who created the day
flower the world
and befriend Lucifer?
Did he who sang to live
thrown from heaven
rewolf the Earth
and sing evil?
From the skies did bile drip
and the sentinel of the night
crawl among the flowers?
From the dirt did the fig grow
to give life to blind creatures
so that they may walk in thickets?
From the wolf did flow
evil that was to live
and the blind that day
did cower from the light.
And the serpent of the dark
frolicked in the spoils on the Seventh day.
Black and White
the equinox is today.
